• Vaccination titer and Vaccination schedule counseling: We are members of the American Animal Hospital Association and follow their recommendations regarding risk exposure and vaccination protocols.
• International Health Certificates: Export of pets to some countries could be a real headache. We offer FVAN rabies testing from Kansas State through our lab.
• Minimally Invasive Soft tissue Surgery (Rigid laparoscopy): We offer Harmonic Scalpel for all of our routine and non routine soft tissue surgeries. Laparoscopic abdominal procedures (abdominal exploration, liver biopsy, pancreatic surgery, adrenalectomy, gastropexy, bladder cancer reconstruction, renal biopsy, intestinal resection and anastomosis, intestinal foreign object removal, bladder calculi removal), and thoracic surgery (diaphragmatic hernia repair, lung lobectomy, vascular ring anomalies, quilothorax)
  Our most popular procedures are laparoscopic spay on females and laparoscopic crypthorchid surgery in the male (some males dogs are born with 1 testicle retained inside of the abdomen that requires surgery for its removal). The laparoscopic removal of a testicle from the abdomen is a very simple procedure and allows to correct the problem without the pain involved with the traditional open abdominal surgery. The testicle is easy and rapidly localized with the intraabdominal camera and resected and removed through one of the small ports used for the laparoscopy.
• Advantages of Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery:
  During laparoscopic surgery very small incisions (5 mm) are made on the patient to introduce a small scope connected to a camera. The surgeon uses small surgical instruments and under direct visualization performs the surgical procedure without the need of opening the patient abdomen or thorax. At Portola Plaza Veterinary Hospital all our spays and abdominal surgeries are performed laparoscopically using an ultrasonic surgical device (Harmonic Scalpel,Ethicon), one of the latest advances in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery in Human surgery. We have performed hundreds of laparoscopic spays with a great feed back from our clients and excellent and fast recovery from their pets. Only very few veterinary hospitals in USA offer this new modality of minimally invasive surgery and their reported time ranges from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for one spay. We perform a dog or a cat spay using the HALO technique in 5-10 minutes. With minimmaly invasive laparoscopic surgery there are no mistakes. The surgeon can see everything and eliminates mistakes due to poor visibility of the operating field. The recovery from the surgery is reduced in a half with less pain for your beloved pet
  
• Laparoscopic Gastropexy for prevention of Gastric Torsion: We perform minimally invasive preventative Gastropexy for those breeds predisposed to develop GDV (gastric dilation-volvulus). This procedure could save your dog's life. The price is minimal compared to the expense involved during the emergency open abdominal gastropexy and the increased mortality seen in affected breeds (Great Dane, Mastiff, Saint Bernard, Golden Retriever, etc)
• Orthopedic Surgery: TTA (Tibial Tuberosity Advancement) to treat cranial cruciate ligament injuries in the knee; Patella luxation repair, Fracture repair, FHO) 
• Internal Medicine: We have excellent clinical experience with state of the art diagnostic capabilities that allow us to achieve accurate and fast diagnosis of disease process.
• Dentistry: We follow the guidelines of the American Veterinary Dental College for prophylactic cleaning and dental extractions. Although we perform our procedures using conscious sedation, we use full monitoring to prevent any anesthetic associated complication. Antibiotics are used prophylactic in all our dental procedures.
• Endoscopy: We offer upper GI endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Rhinoscopy, Bronchoscopy and Cystoscopy.
• Laboratory Services: We have Idexx Vettest, Lasercyte and Vetlyte capabilities. We can give you diagnostic blood results in 10 minutes.
• Safe Anesthesia: We use propofol and isofluorane for our anesthetic procedures. Ventilator, pulseoxymeter, temperature, noninvasive blood pressure, end tidal CO2 monitoring and EKG are used to monitor all our anesthetic procedures.  
• Digital Radiology: We use integrated Idexx telemedicine system with excellent resolution digital radiology.Routine studies and specialized studies (portal vein contrast studies, gall bladder contrast studies, barium upper GI studies, pyelogram, double contrast cystography, etc.
• Ultrasonography: Abdominal sonography. Liver, Kidney, Spleen, intestinal and  Lymphnode ultrasound guided biopsy. Pregnancy detection, neoplasia metastasis assesment (melanoma, lymphoma, mast cell tumor).
